With Habitat for Humanity, home ownership is more than a dream

South Suburbs, Illinois (December 16, 2010) – Just ask Sarah, Jacqueline, Ada, Carmnen and Angel and they will talk about the dream realized now that they have been accepted as partner families in the Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs home ownership program. Soon they will move into their newly rehabbed home in Lansing or Park Forest and begin paying their v…ery affordable, interest free mortgage.
“Our program is designed to provide an opportunity for home ownership to hard working families who otherwise would live in sub-standard conditions,” noted affiliate executive director David Tracy. “Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with zero percent interest, affordable loans. Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program. In addition to monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the homes of others.”
This year, Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs is partnering with the Cook County Bureau of Community Development to acquire and rehab foreclosed properties. “We will have a number of homes in each community, and depending on the scope of work many of these homes will be ready for occupancy very soon,” added David Tracy. “So, now we are scheduling an orientation session for anyone who might be interested in participating in our program”. The session will cover the application process, what it takes to qualify and the steps an applicant must take.

This event will take place on Saturday, January 22nd starting at 10AM. Attendance is by invitation only so the next step is to call the affiliate office at 708-756-2015 and leave a name and mailing address.
